BRUSSEL – Secretataris-generaal Athar Husain Khan van de European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) is zondag onverwachts overleden. De Nederlander stond sinds juli 2018 aan het hoofd van de brancheorganisatie. Husain Khan bekleedde al meer dan dertig jaar posities in de internationale luchtvaart. Hij werd 60 jaar.
“We zijn geschokt en zeer bedroefd om het overlijden van onze secretaris-generaal”, reageert EBAA-voorzitter Juergen Wiese. “We verliezen in hem een gewaardeerde collega en vriend. Athar zette de menselijke kant altijd voorop en stuurde de branche in de goede richting tijdens uitdagende tijden.”
Husain Khan studeerde rechten in Leiden en ging daarna werken voor voor de Nederlandse ministeries van onderwijs en vervoer. Na een managementfunctie bij KLM werd Husain Khan CEO van de Association of European Airlines (AEA). Vijf jaar geleden maakte hij de overstap naar de zakelijke luchtvaart.
De Nederlander deed veel aan sport en hield een private pilot’s license (PPL). Hij laat een vrouw en zoon na.
Sharing our origin ‘Pakistan’ briefly meeting him in 80’s & 90’s and listening over his human qualities being a jolly good fellow from my own family member , who was his class fellow at faculty of law, at University of Leiden, i always shared his memories. Was a great shock reading over his sudden departure for eternal life!
I offer my condolences to his colleagues at EBAA , Dutch ministry of education and transport, his fellows at Leiden University, his family members in Pakistan & elsewhere in the world and above all his partner and son Iskandar….not only you all , we all lost a good friend and family member but definitely the world lost a extraordinary sophisticated, decent, honest, sincere, caring , highly capable rare human breed , while we needed many more Athar Husain Khan at this planet earth, that even a person like me, with no claims of being his friend, felt sharp pain in heart and soul , reading and looking at his exclusive similing face .
May the Almighty Allah bless his soul and provide strength to all of us , and may you all enjoy a healthy and happy life….as we say ” LIFE goes on “
